Community Service

CDI is proud to be part of a community – Owatonna and the world.

Employees are encouraged to volunteer and support various non-profit, civic, youth, church and school organizations.

We enjoy coming together and making a difference, like we have done in these people’s lives.

Home of Refuge is a Philippine orphanage for 40 children in Ozamis City.  Willie Lumantas grew up as a street boy, and has a heart to provide food and clothing to street children. CDI has been a partner with Home of Refuge for over 15 years.

The Owatonna Foundation has made and continues to make major contributions to the welfare of our community.  To meet the ever-changing needs of the community, the Foundation has helped with grants to various support groups for capital purchases and improvements.

Beds for Kids is a charitable Non-Profit dedicated to providing children in need with beds that are currently in unsuitable sleeping situations.  Each child receives a twin size bed (frame, mattress & box spring), mattress pad, bedding and pillow.  Bunk beds are also available when applicable. Beds for Kids currently serves Steele County, MN and Waseca County, MN.

Blue Line Club and the Owatonna High School Girls Hockey Association support the girls and boys high school teams and youth programs.

The Caleb Lane Erickson Memorial Fund is established in the Waseca Area Foundation by his family to honor his military service. The Caleb Erickson Memorial Event has grown to include a fun run/walk for all ages, an all wheels ride including everything from motorcycles to classic cars or whatever you choose to follow in the procession with called Caleb's Convoy, a full service lunch with all the trimmings, and as always culminating with a graveside service at Woodville Cemetery to honor Caleb.

Healthy Seniors of Steele County provide support and services which help seniors in need who are 65 and older live healthy, safe, and independent in their own homes, to prolong the length of spending down into Medical Assistance, and divert nursing home placements.

The Huskies Fastpitch Club is an organization dedicated to providing softball players the opportunity to develop the skills of the game and to stress the principles of teamwork, dedication and sportsmanship.
The Owatonna High School Carolers started back in 1938 as a mixing of an afterschool program and a church group. It has since grown into one of the longest traditions taking place at OHS.  The cheer and spirit of the community is also an important factor for the students.

Ride for the Brand – Americans with Disabilities focuses on children with special needs ages Kindergarten thru grade 12 to come and experience the gentleness and therapeutic traits of horses. The participants can ride horse back or in horse drawn wagons. This program gives those with challenges in their life the opportunity, kindness, respect and support to help them saddle-up and “Ride for the Brand”. The event is held each Thursday evening in July.

Smokin’ in Steele is a state championship barbeque contest as proclaimed by Governor Dayton.  This event is part of an annual fundraising event where thousands of dollars have been raised for very deserving groups.
